The Rose Group Receives Top Award from International Franchise Association for Charitable Service
NEWTOWN, Pa. - September 12, 2019 - The Rose Group, franchisee of Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, was the Gold winner of the "Spirit of Franchising Award" presented by the International Franchise Association (IFA). The award recognizes charitable or community support programs that embody the spirit of "giving back to his or her local community." The Rose Group's award includes a $5,000 contribution by IAF to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), to which The Rose Group is a founding supporter. The Rose Group began its relationship with ALSF in 2005, with 67 restaurants participating in that year's fundraising promotion. It's getting harder and harder to get on the coveted Restaurant 200 list - these A-list operators generated $37.5 billion in revenue last year and operated just under 27,000 restaurants. When the Restaurant Finance Monitor first calculated the list of the top restaurant operators back in 1989, there were just 13 companies that topped $100 million in revenue. And 10 years later the Wall Street Journal referred to the list in an article about "mega-franchisees." Back then, that meant an operator with 50 locations picking up a second brand. Compared to the average today of $187.5 million in annual sales and 135 restaurants, it's plain to see the term "mega" was a little premature-and at the rate the strongest operators keep growing, it may be still. The Restaurant Neighbor Award was created by the National Restaurant Association to recognize restaurants that exemplify the industry's philanthropic spirit. This is the seventh time The Rose Group has been awarded this honor and marks six consecutive years of winning since 2011. The Rose Group has worked hard to build and maintain a culture of philanthropy and genuine connection between community members, employees at each local restaurant and those in their corporate office. Initiatives such as Flapjack Fundraisers and a partnership with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) allows employees at each location to support their communities need in a way that will create a real impact in their neighborhoods.

The Rose Group team was honored by Applebee's/Dine Equity for outstanding achievements in sales, operations excellence, and community service. For the second consecutive year, and 3rd time overall, we received Operator of the Year honoring the leadership of every manager and the senior operations team. For the second consecutive year, and 5th time overall, Harry Rose received Franchisee of the Year. We are the only franchisee that has won both awards in two consecutive years. For the second year in a row, this year's Abe Gustin Franchisee of the Year Award recipient is Harry Rose, Chairman of The Rose Group. This annual award, named for the man who helped build Applebee's into the nation's iconic, casual dining brand, is given to franchisees who have achieved the highest standards possible for the Applebee's brand, restaurants and guests. The Rose Group demonstrates unparalleled commitment and passion for the brand and contributes to brand growth through: internal committee participation; collaborative philanthropic initiatives including raising more than $270,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation this year; consistent dedication to training and development; participation in product tests; and a constant dedication to ensuring all Applebee's guests have a consistently great dining experience in each of their restaurants.
